Director of Student Ministries

Job Objective: Provide leadership, vision, and tools for adults to come alongside our 6thto 12thgrade students in heart focused discipleship.  Teaching them to know Jesus, to love Jesus, and to follow Jesus.  Making disciples who make disciples.

 

Responsibilities: Providing Biblical content for study and growth along with spiritual direction to both youth and adult volunteers. Creatively expanding the youth ministry beyond the walls of the church at all of our campuses. Cooperating with area churches and actively investing in non-churched and de-churched young people. 

 

Essential Functions:

  •  To develop relationships with youth and adults throughout the communities we serve.
  • Be available for consultation with youth and parents.
  • To direct and oversee the organization, planning and developing of opportunities for youth to grow into the image of Jesus Christ; using “vehicles” like retreats, small groups, events, mission trips, fund raisers, and curriculum to accomplish this end at all campuses.
  • To help and seek help from other staff and ministries at FRC. 
  • Develop an ongoing vision for youth ministries at FRC that is in line with the overall vision and core values of FRC.
  • Support campus Student Ministries staff with the high or middle school youth group.
  • Recruit, train and empower volunteers to serve within the high or middle school youth group
  • Collaborate with the discipleship team developing yearly schedules for such things as: programs and events, retreats, mission trips, partnering with parents, etc.
  • Maintain a safe, fun environment for participants and leaders during programs, events and trips
  • Ensure that the FRC Child Safety and Policies procedures are followed and implemented
  • Participate and help develop adult and student leaders in student ministries
  • Plan special events for outreach, growth and service
  • Support students by attending school and community activities and events
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications

  • Member of First Reformed Church (if not member, will move towards that)
  • Align with and support the mission and Vision of FRC
  • Experience with serving, leading and working with students
  • Experience in developing leaders and people, including volunteers
  • Passion for youth ministry
  •  Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Energetic and willing to innovate
  • Takes Initiative
  • Effective communication skills
  • Willing and able to maneuver with the pace of ministry
  • Team Player

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Arts degree in youth ministry, theology, secondary education, social work or a related field and/or an equivalent combination of related education and experience will also be considered.
  • Past experience in working with high school-aged children and adults in a school or ministry setting.
